"I listen to a lot of Odd Future," Lil Wayne said in an interview with XXL. "I’ve been listening to a lot of old stuff, though. Recently I’ve been listening to a lot of Bone Thugs, [E. 1999 Eternal], that album. I listen to a lot of UGK, a lot of 8Ball & MJG and that’s kind of it. As far as new, I listen to Future, to a lot of the older mixtape stuff [and] A$AP Ferg."
While he listens to Odd Future, A$AP Ferg and Future, Wayne said that he is still "amazed" by new videos he sees.
"I don’t know where Hip Hop is at," he said. "I just listen to the old stuff, and my television stay on SportsCenter. Even when I’m flipping through the channels, I stumble across MTV or BET or whatever, if I stop and watch that video it’s because I haven’t seen that video. I’m so amazed. I don’t know if it’s new. I don’t know who the person is."
Lil Wayne was also asked about his I Am Not a Human Being II project. This was his attempt at being "underground," he said.
"Overall I felt good about the project because I approached it in a manner of—and this may sound silly—trying to be underground."
In 2011, Odd Future's Tyler, the Creator spoke about a speech Wayne gave him at an award show. “I wanted to kind of fan out and shit," Tyler said. "He gave me a speech about how happy he was that I won a [MTV] VMA and that seeing my mom go crazy kind of made him feel like he won it too, because that shit was real as fuck."
Last year, Lil Wayne performed with Odd Future in Los Angeles as part of OF's Camp Flog Gnaw tour.
